I’ve been in the field since 2022, and I’m incredibly passionate about giving animals the best care possible—just the kind I’d want for my own pets. I work hard to be the kind of vet tech that makes both pets and their owners feel comfortable and cared for. Outside of work I enjoy spending my time with my own pets, I have three dogs, a cat, a turtle and a gecko! I love being part of this team and look forward to helping care for your pets and supporting their health and happiness every day.

Carol Smith
Vet Tech
My career has been a journey of wet noses, wagging tails, purrs, and healing hearts—all inspired by the incredible bond between humans and their pets. Throughout my 17 years of dedicated experience in veterinary medicine, I’ve shared in countless moments of both tears and joy. I began my journey at Penn Foster in 2008 while living in Colorado Springs, eventually spending 17 years building a professional foundation with Banfield Pet Hospital from 2008 to 2025. Driven by a desire to change animals' lives and provide the highest quality of care, I relocated to Lake Havasu in late 2024 and joined the amazing team at the Western Arizona Humane Society in February 2025. The surgery suite is my professional passion. With nearly two decades of experience in anesthesia monitoring, dental cleanings, and safe, gentle recovery, I live by the motto: "Thousands of paws held, one constant passion." To me, being a Vet Tech isn't just a job; it’s an honor and a privilege. It is a 17-year love letter to the animals who teach us about resilience and unconditional love every day. From the toughest cases to the happiest reunions, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. When I’m off duty, you’ll find me kayaking, boating, disc golfing, or out on the side-by-side soaking up adventures with my partner, Scott. I am proud to serve our local pet community and can't wait to meet you!

Caroline Vela
Receptionist
As a receptionist at the Western Arizona Humane Society’s veterinary clinic, I serve as the welcoming voice and first point of contact for pet owners seeking quality care for their companions. My primary responsibilities include managing incoming calls, scheduling appointments, and providing clients with information about our veterinary services. At the front desk, I assist with check-in and check-out while helping ensure clear communication between our veterinary team and pet owners. I understand that veterinary visits can be stressful, so I strive to create a calm, supportive environment that puts both pets and their families at ease. My love for animals is deeply rooted in my personal life, having raised my children in a home filled with pets including rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, chickens, hamsters, and even bearded dragons. This experience has given me a genuine appreciation for the bond between people and their animals. I take pride in contributing to a positive client experience and supporting our team’s mission to provide compassionate, high-quality care while strengthening the human-animal bond in our community.
